yiayia and friends

About Yiayia

“yiayia and friends” reimagines and re-introduces superior quality food products, culinary objects and epicurean artefacts of yesteryear. At the heart of the project, “Yiayia” (“granny” in Greek) is glorified in a key storyline as the super-powerful, all-knowing but also discreet person that she is. Together with her friends from both the human and animal kingdom, the arts of growing, cooking and sharing food are remembered, re-introduced and re-imagined for generations to come. The solid-coloured, closed-shape, vibrant characters share the same “eyes,” a visual element doubling as a silent logo across the project, interlocking with each other and their environment in a visual representation of the connection between mankind, nature and creation.

What began as a fearless side project between two friends has grown into a living universe rooted in trust, slowness and craft. yiayia and friends works exclusively with small-scale producers and family farms in Crete and the Peloponnese, championing olive oil and foodstuffs made traditionally and sourced locally. The packaging builds trust with the viewer, and the products are made to match. It is a marathon, not a sprint, built on long-lasting relationships with farmers, food scientists and the land itself. Yiayia is not a character invented for marketing. She is real, she lives in us, and she is the compass for everything the project creates. Every new product, every new space, every new experience is another room in the same house. And the house always feels like home.
